Breast reduction consists in correcting excess breast volume and sagging.
Breast hypertrophy is characterized by an increase in breast volume above the proportions we consider normal. This hypertrophy may occur in puberty and may cause significant emotional and social strain on patients. For this reason, although the scars are noticeable, the operation is highly appreciated by patients.
¿What does the surgery involve?
The operation is performed under general anaesthesia.
An incision is made around the areola and another vertical incision is made from the lower area of the areola to the inframammary fold. In cases where the breasts are drooping (i.e., with a distance to the areola and nipple above 30cm.), another horizontal incision through the inframammary fold will generally be necessary, and possibly even a graft with the areola-nipple complex.
Post-operative care involves:
Relative rest for one week.
You shouldn’t carry anything heavy or do sport for the first 2 weeks.
You should wear a sports bra.
What will I achieve with a breast reduction?
A breast reduction will improve your self-esteem, make you feel more attractive and raise your self-confidence. If you’ve felt self-conscious about the size of your breasts and if they’ve been causing you problems, now’s the time to ask for a diagnosis.
